Konnichiwa Minasan!
Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to help out on Friday June 1st with our Japanese guests!
I'm very excited for this event to take place.

It will be a great day! If for some reason you cannot attend (Ex: in event of Extreme illness only), please email me at the address provided on my webpage!
Arigatou gozaimasu! It will be a great and fun-filled day!
See you on Friday!
I'm very excited for this event to take place.

- 9:30am- Assembly starts (speeches, gift exchange, presentation/dance, etc.)
- ~10:30am- Pair up with Japanese students & School Tour
- ~11:00am- Pick up chairs from cafe & escort students to their designated classrooms
- 11:35am- Pick up students from classrooms & escort them back to the cafe (10 mins BEFORE lu begins)
- Please remember to be in the SMALL GYM at 9:20am on FRIDAY JUNE 1st. The assembly starts at 9:30am sharp so DO NOT BE LATE and please DO NOT BACK OUT IF YOU SIGNED UP!!! We are counting on you! we will have close to 100 Japanese students that day.
- After speeches and presentations, you will each be paired up with 4-6 Japanese students. You will then take your group of students on a tour around the school (follow the instructions on the sheet of paper you will be given). Once the tour is finished you will get a chair for each students in the cafeteria and escort the students to designated classrooms where they will observe a class. Once you've dropped them off you may go to your own class for majority of the period. However, please get out of class (your sheet of paper is your ticket out and Ms.Thomson will email the teachers excusing you) 10 MINS BEFORE LUNCH and GO BACK AND PICK UP THE STUDENTS YOU DROPPED OFF! You will then escort them down to the cafeteria for lunch. Don't forget to bring the chairs back to the cafe!!!
- The afternoon will be the time when the Japanese students will be setting up their cultural booths. You will be able to be let out of class to help with this. Just be sure to inform your teacher.
See you on Friday!

Bill 22 Action Plan
Konnichiwa Mina san,
Gomen nasai. As you may already know, last week all the teachers in Surrey voted for an action plan against Bill 22. One of the components of the action plan includes the withdrawal of extracurricular activities. I'm very sorry, but this means that we will not be able to meet for Japanese Club for the rest of the school year. While I do support our union, at the same time this makes me sad, because I enjoy meeting with you all so much! I hope you can understand why this is happening and I'm sorry that it affects you guys so much.
In any case, I thank you for your time and interest in the Japanese Club, and that you will continue to study your hiragana and maybe even katakana! ;) Remember you can check out the great sites I've posted links to on my site to continue studying if you wish. I hope that you do.
Please stay in touch and don't be afraid to stop by and say hi. Remember that you can expect our Japanese exchange student guests to be arriving at our school the beginning of June. I believe it is June 1st or 3rd or something like that. I will contact you &/or be sure to pass your names onto Ms.Thompson so that you can be paired up with the Japanese students for the morning! Please keep this in mind and stay tuned for upcoming details.Don't forget to practice the basic conversational questions and answers I taught you, so that you can try out your Japanese with the students from Japan!

April 18th Meeting
Konnichiwa Minasan,
We will have a club meeting today after school as usual. Last week we started watching another of Hayao Miyazaki's anime movies, My Neighbour Totorro, one of his original famous fantasies. We will continue watching this movie and hopefully finish it!It is really cute and of course, kind of strange!
Hope to see you on Wednesday!

Next Meeting Unknown
Konnichiwa Mina-san,
Sorry, but with everything that has been happening with the job action as of late, we are not likely to have club again for awhile. I am really not sure. I'll know more this week, so please stop by my classroom at any point over the next few days and hopefully I'll have an answer for you guys. I am very sorry- I hope you know how much I enjoy meeting with you all and how much I appreciate your interest in Japanese. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, but hope you can understand why this is all happening.
In the meantime, please continue studying your Hiragana, use those online flashcards and quizzes so you don't forget all that you have learned thus far, and please use the Learn Japanese on the Web link- it is a great resource that will help you continue to learn with or without me!

Wednesday Feb.29th
Please listen for announcements or stop by my classroom after school on Wednesday to check whether we'll be having a club meeting or not. Our ability to meet is dependent on the results of the current job action and the impending legislation. My apologies for the disruption. Gomen nasai :(

Another Date Change!!
Konnichiwa!!
I apologize for another schedule change, but there will be no club on Wednesday after school. I have a meeting on Wednesday that I'd like to attend. We could reschedule this week's regular meeting again to either Tuesday or Thursday. Any preference? At this point I think Thursday would work fine. Please stop by my classroom or email me if Thursday is an issue. Otherwise, hope to see you then!!
Thanks for understanding and being flexible!

Konnichiwa Mina-san!
This week our meeting will be weather-permitting. If it happens to snow a lot that day (as predicted it may), I might have to cancel our meeting because I have a long way to drive home and I want to get home in the daylight and avoid rush hour traffic. That being said, however, I hope it doesn't snow, because I want to get into some more practical lessons to build on some of the grammer you learned last week.
Please stop by my room on Wednesday.
Hope to see you soon :)
